Many times, we can find life exhausting. Our existence is one of a chaotic culture that demands we all run a thousand miles an hour, seemingly all of the time. Society screams at us about our performance and productivity, as well as how we need to be raising our children, preparing them for their professional athletic futures. Materialism is a beast that beckons as many live in constant comparison, so there is an all-consuming attempt to keep up. There never seems to be enough time for everything, nor enough money for anything. We can’t seem to find any real time to be still before God, so we end up striving in that as well, only to find ourselves dealing with an ever-growing sense of shame in this area, too. And yet, with all the competing invitations that pursue us; somewhere, in the mental and emotional paradox of our lives, there is this steady, still small voice that beckons to us.
“Come to me.
Get away with me.
Come to a place where you can rest.”
“Come learn my unforced rhythms, rather than living in those forced ones that easily grips so tightly.”
Jesus is waiting.
He promises to not overwhelm us with any burden, but rather, He wants us to live in His blessing.
When it comes to Jesus, there’s such freedom and peace in obedience.
Tell that to a child … that there is freedom in obedience. Most kids wouldn’t believe that.
It's not until the selfish childlike tendencies in us meet a growing sense of maturity that we realize the freedom, peace, and blessing of walking with Jesus in humble, submissive obedience.
Many of us need grace from the grind of life right now and it will only come through pushing pause on our regularly scheduled programs, finding margin, and escaping into the presence of Jesus.
Let’s get away with Him.
Pray and ask Jesus for the strength and courage to prioritize getting away with Him over these next 21 days. Begin to make yourself available to listen. He is inviting us into many opportunities of blessing, but the first step of obedience He is calling us to is to pause. Be Still. Rest, … listen, and wait on Him.
The will of God for your life is simply that you submit yourself to Him each day
and say, "Father, Your will for today is mine. Your pleasure for today is mine.
Your work for today is mine. I trust You to be God. You lead me today and I will follow."
