If being honest and doing a self assessment, what would you say truly has your heart? What is it that has possession and the priority of your attention, affection and allegiance? How easy it becomes to compromise with so many things competing for your worship.
Here’s a truth this morning …
What we think about most —
What gets the most of our time —
Where we spend the most of our money, etc… this is what we worship.
This is what truly has possession of our attention, affection, and allegiance.
This is what really has a grip on our heart.
It becomes difficult to desire God’s will when we are too fixated on our own wishes and whims. It becomes impossible to walk in obedience to Jesus when we are consumed with seeking our own plans rather than first seeking His presence.
What is it that is competing for your affections this morning?
What is it that has the focus of your attention that is taking your gaze off of the only one truly worthy? Take some time this morning to lay those things at the feet of Jesus in confession. When you find yourself obsessing over lesser things we will find ourselves obedient to those lesser things. We were created for so much more. May we not give ourselves over to people, places, or things that are undeserving of our love; but rather, may we rightly align our affections with the one we truly belong to - the one who loved us first. Today, may we offer the fullness of our heart, love, and obedience to the one who created us, chose us, and called us.
“When obedience to God contradicts what I think will give me pleasure, let me ask myself if I love Him."
- Elisabeth Elliot
