“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” -A.W. Tozer

SCRIPTURE:

I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

DEVOTIONAL:

There’s a gap between what Jesus says about you and what the world tells you about yourself. This gap is not a theological abstraction—it’s honestly where most of us live every single day.

Know this: Jesus looked at you, before you opened your eyes this morning, and declared: NOT of this world. You are not to be formed by this world; you are not defined by this world and, ultimately, you are not accountable to this world. You belong to a Kingdom the world cannot see, run by a King this world has largely rejected, and are to be operating by principles that make no sense to the culture of this world that you live inside.

The problem isn't that the world disagrees with Jesus - the problem is that, tragically, most of us, if honest, find that we have been living as though the world is right. We absorb its definitions of success, beauty, worth, security, and identity without realizing we're being quietly formed into something we were never designed to be.

The fast begins here—not with discipline for discipline's sake, but with a clear-eyed acknowledgment: I have been more shaped by the world than I realized. And that shaping deserves a deliberate, intentional response.

The first day of the fast is not about what you're giving up; it's about what you're recovering. You are a citizen of a Kingdom that does not operate by this world's rules. You are loved by a God who is not impressed by the world's metrics. And you are beginning twenty-one days of saying, with your body and your soul: I belong to Someone else. That belonging is the foundation of everything that follows.

DAILY VERSE:

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. - John 17:16

PRAYER:

Lord, I begin this fast with my hands open. I confess that I have allowed the world to form me more than I have allowed You to. I don't always know where the boundary is between the Kingdom and the culture—which is exactly why I need this fast. Today I choose to start paying attention. Wake me up! I want to see what You see when You look at my life - and I want to spend the next twenty-one days becoming more Yours than I was when I started. Amen.

FAST:

SOCIAL MEDIA SCROLL FAST — All Day

Today, do not open any social media app to scroll. You may post if required for work, but no passive consumption—no feeds, no reels, no stories. Social media is one of the primary places the world tells you who you are. Today, replace every urge to scroll with this prayer instead.
