“God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there.” - C.S. Lewis

SCRIPTURE:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

DEVOTIONAL:

There is a kind of exhaustion that doesn't come from working too hard—it comes from carrying too many things you were never designed to carry. Things like: The weight of maintaining an identity built on performance … The weight of measuring your worth against people who seem to be further ahead …

The weight of fear about a future you can't control, and bitterness about a past you can't change.

These burdens are so familiar that most of us have stopped noticing them - we just carry them.

They become the silent background noise of our lives. Not silent in a way we can’t hear, but silent in the way we’ve become accustomed to assuming is normal; therefore, we don’t hear them anymore. Yet, the noise is still very much there.

Jesus does something unusual in Matthew 11. He doesn't say, "Do better, try harder." He doesn't offer a strategy for managing the weight more efficiently. He says: come. Come to me, all you who are weary.

The Greek word for "burdened" here speaks of a load placed on an animal—a weight assigned by

someone else, which means some of what you're carrying was never yours to begin with. Some of it was assigned by the world: cultural expectations, impossible standards, comparison traps, a definition of success that keeps the finish line moving.

The first week of a fast is often when people discover what they've been using to cope with the weight they're carrying. Food is comfort. Busyness is avoidance. Scrolling is distraction. When those things are reduced or removed, the weight becomes visible again. And that's not failure—that's the whole point.

You can't set down what you haven't acknowledged you're holding. Let today be the day you name what you've been carrying and offer it to the One who says, “I'll take that.” He was not exaggerating when He said His yoke is easy. He actually meant it.

DAILY VERSE:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:28

PRAYER:

Lord, I am tired of carrying things you never asked me to carry. Today I name the weight—the fear, the
pressure, the need to prove, the pace that never lets me breathe. I lay it here, at the feet of the One who says "come." I believe you when you say your yoke is easy. That means the weight I've been lugging around isn't from you. Take what was never mine to hold and teach me what it actually feels like to walk in Your freedom. Amen.

FAST:

COMPLAINT FAST — All Day

Today, fast from complaining—out loud and in your head. Every time you feel the urge to grumble about traffic, a person, your schedule, your circumstances, or your body, pause. Ask: is this something I'm carrying that God never asked me to pick up? Complaining is one of the clearest signs that we are holding on to what we were meant to release.
