"The remarkable thing about fearing God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if
you do not fear God, you fear everything else." - Oswald Chambers

SCRIPTURE:

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

DEVOTIONAL:

Fear is not neutral. When fear runs the show, it makes decisions — about your relationships, your finances, your future, your theology. Fear-driven generosity is no generosity at all; it grips. Fear-driven faith is no faith at all; it manages risk. Fear-driven community produces people who stay at the surface because vulnerability feels too dangerous. And fear-driven Christianity produces people more shaped by what they are against than by who they are for — because fear is always oriented away from something, never toward Someone.

Paul’s declaration to Timothy is not a wish — it is a theological statement of fact about the nature of the Spirit you received. The Spirit of God is not a spirit of fear. That means when fear is running the show in your life, something other than the Spirit of God is in the driver's seat. That is a diagnostic that matters.

The anxiety, the dread, the low-grade panic about the news and the future — none of it is coming from the Spirit of the living God who says "do not be afraid" more times in Scripture than almost anything else.

The news fast today is not about ignorance. It is about breaking the formation that fear-driven content produces. What happens when you do not know what is trending, what is threatening, what outrage is current today? You may discover that the sky is still the same color. That God is still on the throne. That the things He asked you to be faithful to are still right in front of you. The world runs on fear. The Kingdom runs on something entirely different — and today is a day to find out what that difference actually feels like.

DAILY VERSE:

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. - 2 Timothy 1:7

PRAYER:

Lord, I confess that I have been more formed by the news than by you. I have absorbed more anxiety from what I’ve read than peace from what I’ve prayed. Today I shut the feed down and turn my attention toward you. You are not nervous. You are not surprised. You are not losing. Help me actually believe that — not just say it. Give me the peace that the world cannot give, and teach me what it feels like to live from it. Amen.

FAST:

NEWS & CURRENT EVENTS FAST — All Day

No news today — and go one step further: no discussing current events, politics, or “did you hear about…” conversations. Observe how much of your daily mental and conversational energy is fueled by fear of what’s happening in the world. The goal is not ignorance — it is to notice how much space fear- driven content normally occupies in you, and to reclaim that space for something better.
