“In the beginning was silence, and God spoke into it. That is still how God works.” - Eugene Peterson
SCRIPTURE:
DEVOTIONAL:
Phase 3 begins where Phase 2 ended — not with a full cup, but with empty hands. This is intentional.
You cannot be filled with what you have not made space for. The work of these first two weeks has been clearing — clearing the world’s curriculum, clearing the unnamed gods, releasing the grip of unforgiveness, laying down anxiety about what you cannot control. Now the question is: what gets poured into the space that has been made?
Stillness is not something our culture produces naturally. We fill every silence. We answer every notification. We have podcasts for our commute and playlists for our workouts and background
television for our evenings. Not because we are bad people — but because silence feels like nothing, and we have been trained to believe that nothing is unproductive. But the Psalmist understood something the algorithm never will: in the stillness, there is a knowing. Be still — and know. The knowing comes after the stillness, not before it.
Today’s fast from sound is an invitation to discover what happens in the quiet that the noise has been covering. Maybe nothing dramatic. Maybe just a low-grade awareness that you are not alone. That the God who knows you by name is present in the silence in a way He sometimes cannot reach you through the noise. Empty hands are the precondition for receiving. Be still. Make space. The Pour Out is coming.
DAILY VERSE:
Be still, and know that I am God. - Psalm 46:10
PRAYER:
Lord, I turn off the noise today on purpose. I create the quiet intentionally. And I sit in it without rushing to fill it. Speak to me in the stillness. Show me what I have been missing underneath all the sound I keep around me. I want to know you the way only silence makes possible. I am here. I am listening. Amen.
FAST:
PODCAST, MUSIC & BACKGROUND NOISE FAST — All Day
Today, observe silence wherever you normally fill the air with sound. Drive in silence. Cook in silence. Exercise in silence. No podcasts, no playlists, no background TV. You have spent two weeks awakening and releasing — today, create the interior quiet that allows God to speak into what has been cleared. Empty hands begin with an empty soundtrack. Let the silence itself be the fast.
