“The empowering of the Spirit is always for the sake of the mission, not for our comfort. Every river flows somewhere.” — Gordon Fee
SCRIPTURE:
And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
DEVOTIONAL:
This promise is not primarily about a future event you observe from a distance. It is a commission. It is not: “Watch what happens when the Spirit falls on others.” It is: “You will prophesy. You will dream. You will see.” The outpouring of the Spirit was always meant to be experienced from the inside. Not as a spectator of what God does in a church service, but as a participant in what God is doing in a generation.
The word “prophesy” in its richest biblical meaning is not just about predicting the future. It is about speaking the word of God into the present — into real circumstances, real people, real spiritual battles. It is speaking hope to despair. Clarity to confusion. It is naming what God is doing before others can see it.
It is the kind of voice that says, “I see what God has placed in you” to someone who has been told they are nothing. Declaration Church’s vision is bound up in this: raising up a generation who will not just attend church but be sent as prophetic voices into every sphere of society. Your workplace. Your neighborhood. Your family dinner table. The Spirit is not being poured out so that you can feel better on Sunday. He is being poured out so that you can be sent on Monday. You are the fulfillment of Joel 2. Don’t miss it.
DAILY VERSE:
I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. - Joel 2:28
PRAYER:
Lord, let me be a fulfillment of this promise — not a bystander watching it from a distance. Open my mouth to speak hope. Open my eyes to see what you see in the people around me. Let me be a prophetic presence in every room I walk into this week. Pour out your Spirit on me — and send me. Amen.
FAST:
OPINION FAST — All Day
Today, fast from sharing your opinions and recommendations unless directly asked. Instead of leading with your perspective, lead with questions. Ask people what they think. Ask what they need. Practice the discipline of listening before speaking. Prophetic people speak what God says — and God’s voice is often heard in the listening, not the talking. Spend less time talking today. Notice what you hear.
