“We have a tendency to treat the sacred as distant and the ordinary as secular. But in Christ, all ground is potential holy ground — if we would stop long enough to notice.” — A.W. Tozer
SCRIPTURE:
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
DEVOTIONAL:
The Old Testament had one temple. It was a building. A specific location. People traveled hundreds of miles to encounter the presence of God in that place. Then Jesus came. And He began talking about destroying the temple and raising it in three days. They thought He meant the building. He meant Himself. And in the aftermath of the resurrection and Pentecost, the stunning realization dawned on the early church: the Spirit of God no longer dwelt in a building.
He dwelt in people. You are the temple. Not a metaphor. Paul is not being poetic — he is being literal. The same Spirit who descended like fire on Sinai, who filled the Most Holy Place with cloud and glory, who raised Jesus from the dead — that Spirit lives in you. In your ordinary body. In the body that is tired on Thursday. In the body that made a poor choice last week. In the body that is holding the weight of things no one else knows about. That body is a temple. Not because of what you have done, but because of what He has done in you.
This is what it means to "pour out" in Phase 3 — to live with awareness that wherever your body goes, the temple of God goes with it. You do not need a special building to be in God’s presence. You carry it.
But it also means something else: what you do with your body matters. How you steward your energy, your attention, your sexuality, your speech — all of it is temple stewardship. Honor God with your body today. It is holy ground.
DAILY VERSE:
Your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you. - 1 Corinthians 6:19
PRAYER:
Lord, I am astonished that you would make me your home. I don’t deserve that. But I receive it. And I want to steward it faithfully. Show me where I have been treating this temple carelessly — and give me the grace to honor you with every part of my life. Make me aware of your presence in me today — in my ordinary, unremarkable Thursday. Amen.
FAST:
JUNK FOOD & SCREENS FAST — After 7pm
Tonight, fast from junk food and all screens after 7pm. This is a temple fast — a tangible act of honoring the body God dwells in. Use the time you would have spent scrolling for intentional stillness, journaling, or unhurried conversation with someone you love. The body is not the enemy of the spirit. It is the Spirit’s home. Treat it accordingly.
